In his stage shows, Harry Houdini, the legendary escapologist, used to perform many incredible feats. In one of them he would have several men erect a wall on a wooden wheeled base. In the meantime, a group of spectators were invited onstage. In order to rule out trap doors of any kind, the stage was covered with a thick carpet which had been carefully examined. The wall was pushed to the center of the carpet (now you know what the wheels were for). On both sides of the wall, a screen was placed. Members of the audience surrounded wall and screens as it is shown in the illustration.
Houdini would enter from one side letting on of his hands be seen all the time. "I'm still here!" he would say to the audience. Instantly, he would come out from the other side. There were no trap doors for him to crawl under the wall (the carpet would have covered them). It would have been impossible for him to climb the wall without the audience members seeing him and, by the same token, he could not have walked around the wall either... Everyone could see that the wall was not prepared in any way, as it had been built before everybody's eyes, and, yet, Houdini invariably walked through the wall... but how? Rumor has it that Houdini revealed Mago Antón which bricks needed to be pushed in order to go through the wall. On the other side lie Mago Antón's most jealously kept secrets. Fill in the form and send it to us. You will receive and e-mail containing the key to the wall so that you can break through... Good luck (magicians only, please) |
